The Loan Fund's clients are passionate and hardworking, but unable to access business credit through banks or credit unions due to reasons such as income status, location, and level of business experience or acumen. 

Your 100% tax-deductible donation to The Loan Fund enables small businesses, entrepreneurs and nonprofits in underserved and disadvantaged communities across New Mexico to receive the credit and counseling needed to build true self-sufficiency for themselves and their families. Your donation also helps these businesses create new employment opportunities in their communities that otherwise would not exist.

How your donation helps New Mexico small businesses and entrepreneurs in traditionally underserved markets:

Given the challenges that many of our clients face, it is critical for The Loan Fund to keep its interest rates as low as possible. Affordable interest rates increase the likelihood our clients succeed, and it keeps their overhead expenses low so these businesses can create jobs in communities across New Mexico.

Donations and contributions also support The Loan Fund’s ability to offer consulting services at no cost to address a wide range of our clients’ business needs and challenges. In many cases, their businesses would either not have been to able receive a loan without these services or would have been unable to properly address challenges they faced after they received their loans.

Over the last 10 years:

  • 60%+ of our borrowers have been low-to-moderate income
  • 65%+ of our loans have been made to minority-owned businesses
  • 45%+ of our loans have been made to women-owned businesses
  • 80%+ of our loans have been made to businesses that are minority-owned and/or women-owned 

How your donation helps the New Mexico nonprofit community: 

For 26 years, The Loan Fund has been an important source of capital for nonprofit organizations across New Mexico. Past and current nonprofit clients have included: Southwest Creations Collaborative, Working Classroom, New Mexico Jazz Workshop, First Nations Community Healthsource, YMCA of Central New Mexico, The Outpost Performance Space, Albuquerque Heading Home, and St.Elizabeth Shelter, along with many more nonprofits. The  affordable capital provided by The Loan Fund has enabled many of the state’s wonderful nonprofit organizations to buy buildings, provide new services, expand the delivery of their services, and fund their operations. Contributions to The Loan Fund help ensure nonprofits across New Mexico can access affordable credit that otherwise would be unavailable to them.

Your donation helps create and preserve jobs in New Mexico, which is currently the nation’s third most impoverished state. Small business and self-employment opportunities are particularly vital to New Mexico, as many communities across the state lack traditional sources of employment. The Loan Fund’s services fill the gap for small businesses and entrepreneurs who are unable to access traditional financial services. In total, loans made by The Loan Fund have helped small businesses and nonprofits create or preserve over 11,500 jobs in New Mexico.
