About The Loan Fund

The Loan Fund (New Mexico Community Development Loan Fund, Inc.) is a nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) dedicated to creating economic opportunity throughout New Mexico. We provide affordable financing, business support, and technical assistance to entrepreneurs, small businesses, and nonprofits that lack access to traditional capital—particularly in underserved and rural communities. Position Overview

The Lending Department Intern will provide essential administrative support to The Loan Fund’s five-person lending team. This is a hands-on, entry-level opportunity ideal for individuals who are curious about nonprofit finance, community development, or small business lending. No prior experience in finance or banking is required, we welcome candidates from all academic and professional backgrounds who are eager to learn and contribute.

Key Responsibilities

Lending Support

  • Assist loan officers with organizing and tracking loan application documents
  • Prepare and proofread loan files, correspondence, and client communications
  • Help maintain and update loan tracking spreadsheets and databases
  • Support the preparation of DocuSign packages and other digital document workflows
  • Assist with follow-up communications to borrowers, referral partners, and vendors
  • Help compile data and materials for loan committee meetings and board reports

General Office Administration

  • Answer phones, greet visitors, and route inquiries to the appropriate staff
  • Assist with filing, scanning, copying, and general document management
  • Support scheduling, meeting coordination, and calendar management
  • Help maintain organized physical and digital filing systems
  • Assist other departments with administrative tasks as needed

What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) or Google Workspace
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred (not required):

  • Interest in community development, small business, or nonprofit work
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (a plus, not required)
  • Previous experience in any customer-facing or office administrative role
  • Familiarity with DocuSign or other digital document tools

Academic & Background Requirements
